
Scientific areas of focus for health system innovation
South Africa faces many challenges, from the burden of multiple diseases to limitations within health systems. Local insights and solutions to these challenges are critical.
The DRILL programme’s goal is to produce high quality scientists, adequately trained to lead socially valuable, locally relevant and culturally sensitive research projects addressing health challenges specific to the South African and African context.
DRILL is structured as a mentorship and training programme in which fellows will develop skills to address some of these challenges at arrange of levels form communities to policy. Five scientific focus areas for the DRILL programme have been identified:

- Health Systems Strengthening
- Health Professions’ Education
- Health Research Ethics
