Professor Moosa is an Associate Professor, Chief Specialist and Head of the Infectious Diseases Unit at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His research interests include the clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Disease (IRIS)particularly in the context of cryptococcal meningitis, TB drug induced liver injury,  and improving the diagnosis of smear negative TB. His contributions to the understanding of the complex pathophysiology and management of HIV-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome resulted in an operationalized standard definition for the syndrome.
