Treatment for cervical cancer is likely to result in hearing loss, which should be treated proactively.

Cervical cancer, an AIDS-defining illness, is the second most common type of cancer affecting women in South Africa. The use of brachytherapy and cisplatin chemotherapy can successfully treat the condition. However, cisplatin can cause hearing loss, due to its ability to be retained in the structures of the ear indefinitely.
