African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) is an interdisciplinary health professional initiative which seeks to improve health care in Africa through research, education and capacity building. AFREhealth is an initiative that was launched during the MEPI/NEPI (Medical/Nursing Education Partnership Initiative) symposium in Nairobi in August 2016.

The forum was launched by the joint leadership of MEPI (Medical Education Partnership Initiative) and NEPI (Nursing Education Partnership Initiative) during the MEPI/NEPI Symposium in Nairobi through adoption of the Nairobi Resolution on AFREhealth. It seeks to build on the achievements of two funding initiatives, MEPI and NEPI, launched in 2010 and 2011 respectively by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The aim of AFREhealth is to promote African leadership with  accessible health professions education training, research and service to contribute to tackling key health priorities including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and emerging and repeat epidemics and pandemics.
