Dr Ruwayda Petrus

Dr. Ruwayda Petrus is a Senior Lecturer in Industrial Psychology in the discipline of Psychology in the School of Applied Human Sciences at UKZN. She has been involved in work focused on Health Systems Strengthening interventions for the integrated provision of mental health care in low and middle-income countries.  Her experience of working with large research consortiums led to the development of a Clinical Communication Skills for people-centered care training program for Professional Nurses in Primary Health Care Facilities in the North West Province, South Africa. This program has been integrated into the Adult Primary Care Training and more recently into the Ethiopian Primary healthcare clinical guidelines training. Currently, her work is focused on reviewing the evidence on non-technical skills interventions as part of the ASSET NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Health System Strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa.
